Cake... from a PAN?

You wanna know a problem with blogging about events that are two weeks old? Some of the events kind of run together. My Dr's appt was on Apr 9th but that night was not Uncle Jeff and Aunt Emily's party. The night of the 9th, Mom and I just chilled at home while Dad went out with the Uncle Jeff, Uncle Tim and Sophia's Dad Dan. The party and the non existing nap was on Saturday the 10th. Good thing all of these pictures have dates and times attached or I wouldn't get anything right. I had to watch two episodes of CSI (don't tell M&D) just to get in the mood to rebuild the scene of events. YOU INSPIRE ME GIL GRISSOM!

With that editing out of the way, let's pick up where I left off (maybe.) On Sunday, M&D and I went to First Watch for breakfast. No big shocker there right? BUT, with the green light to eat regular table food from Dr Shanker, I scrapped the poached egg and got a PANCAKE! AHHHHH!

Um, pancakes are totally awesome but party pooper Dad put the kaibosh on syrup. Doh! Since I forgot to smear frosting in my hair, I was totally gonna do syrup but Dad was one step ahead. I showed him though because I was still able to make quite a mess!

No-Nap Remorse

Last post was about my 12 month check up which was TEN DAYS AGO! I'm so far behind, blurgh! After my Dr Appt Mom & Dad were willing me to take a nap; something about a busy night ahead but I just wasn't sleepy.

In retrospect I wish I had napped because the busy night M&D referred to was a baby shower (read PAR-TAY!) for Uncle Jeff, Aunt Emily and most importantly Baby K.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid by the time it started I wasn't in a very good mood. It was nothing personal to UJ and AE, I just think the busy day with the shots and such were catching up to me. Since I was kind of being a party pooper, Mom took me home and left Dad to represent our clan. What really bums me out is that I didn't get a chance to play with my... uh, hmmm, I don't know what you call your Dad's Cousin's Niece through marriage... so we'll just call her my future friend, Sophia.

I'm really bummed we didn't get a chance to play but I'm glad to see she likes Grover as much as I do.

I don't know if you recall what your memory was like when you were one (and I call baby spit if say you do) but mine is pretty bad. I mean, I'm so far behind on blogging that I can't even remember what I did let alone write about it. Fortunately Mom & Dad take like a million pictures so I often have record of what I did, even if I don't remember the specifics.

This pic is from two Thursdays ago (4/8.) I'm sure you've noticed by now but I pretty much just have my toys spread out all over the family room (clearly my parents are not OCD) and when I play I just wander from toy to toy. But when I make the rounds back to my piano, I'm always especially happy. I know I don't look all that excited in the pic below but that's because Dad caught me red handed!

See, Mom doesn't like me to play the piano with anything but my hands which means no banging on the keys with blocks or Cookie Monsters, etc. If you check out the zoomed in section of the above pic, you'll see I was trying to get away with one while Mom was in the other room. I think playing the piano with a stackable cup is even HARDER than playing with my fingers but I don't think Mom sees it my way.

On Friday I got to go over and play with Grandma Herbert. We did some reading and went on a walk and of course I showed her how much I've been practicing on the Piano! M&D showed up earlier than expected and interrupted a round of "hide the shoe" I was playing with GmaH. What, we can hide eggs but not shoes? W. (I won the that round because I hid it in some Tupperware and GmaH had to wait for GpaH to get home before they found it. SWEET!)

I was super suspicious of M&D because they came to get me so early and I was absolutely right. I had to go see Dr. Shanker for my 12 month check up -- AND SHOTS! Oh, I was so mad at M&D when I found out I was getting shots that I burst into tears almost immediately when DS came into the room. It turns out I forgot that the nurses give me the shots and DS just wanted to do some poking and prodding. Anyway, I got three vaccines and an open door to eat all sorts of new food including milk instead of formula. Sweet!

I think DS suspected M&D of feeding me coffee and cigarettes because I've dropped into the TENTH Percentile in height/length. Whoa. DS said it wasn't a big deal though because it may be a result of the way different nurses measure, etc. He did say the true measure is when I'm two years old because then I'll stand to get my height checked. He also dropped a wicked cool fact on us. Did you know that when you're two years old you if your height is in the 50th percentile or less that you double it and that's how tall you'll be full grown. And if you're above the 50th percentile that you double your height and add an inch! Does that seem crazy or what? But, if you look at this growth chart below, the 50th percentile at 24 months is 33.75 inches which doubled would be around 5' 7". Doesn't sound so crazy now does it. Anyway, you can see my actuals are plotted. I've also dropped to about the 40th percentile for weight.

The Newest Apple Product

I figure there are a few of you who thought since I hit 201 posts that I was gonna call it quits. Well, the thought had crossed my mind but I got invigorated again when Dad said he'd let me use his iPad...AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Sweet!

I got so excited that I must have completely blocked out the fact that Dad followed the word iPad with the word Mini. Of course, there is no iPad Mini or rather, that's not what Apple calls it. Dad was referring to his iPod Touch. BOOOOOO! I mean, iPod Touch is cool and all, and frankly perfectly sized for me but it is not as cool as an iPad.... probably.

Okay, I left off with my birthday party which was practically two weeks ago. Yikes! On Saturday (and again, that's April 3rd!) Mom and I went over to Grandma & Grandpa Herbert's to color Easter eggs. I've had eggs before and I've colored before but I don't know that I've colored eggs before. In fact, I think they're already mostly yellow.... Personally, I had more fun playing outside with GmaH and Aunt Abby. I LOVE SPRING!

On Easter Sunday, G&G H came over in the morning to give me more gifts? What the wha? April is AWESOME! These gifts came via Easter basket and were accompanied by colored eggs - oh, I get it now, that's what that was for... wait, the eggs were supposed to be hidden? In our house? I mean, M&D can't find things that AREN'T hidden in our house, let alone things that are!

Shortly after the festivities, Mom got me all dolled up in my Sunday's best (darn cute dress but lousy to crawl in!)

After the portrait, G&G H, Mom and I were off to church. I was pretty excited because I really enjoyed the last time I was there. In fact, I was so excited that I wanted to share it with everyone there but party pooper Mom didn't think the Minister needed any help so she took me and my chattiness (wow, chattiness is word?) into the atrium type area near the front door. I was okay with that too though because she let me walk around in my squeaky shoes. So fun!

After church, G&G H dropped Mom and me off at Stroud's where the Davenport clan, among others, were gathering for a late lunch. Surprise - more presents via Easter basket! The joy was pretty short for me personally because all the fun of the morning finally caught up with me and I forced Grandpa [CORRECTION: it was GrandMA] Davenport into holding me so I could take a nap. Not the most conventional bed but still totally awesome.

Great Friday

Mom had the day off on Friday but not because it was her regular day off but because JP Morgan recognizes Good Friday as a company holiday. Sweet! It's a good thing Mom had the day off too because she had a lot of prepping to do for MY FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY! This meant she had to find something for me to do while she party planned. Fortunately I had just received an influx of gifts to keep my busy!

One certain upside to a birthday party was that I got to wear a party dress! One discovered downside is that party dresses aren't really made for crawling (there's some motivation to walk) and that can be pretty frustrating. About the only thing worse would be taking my sweet party dress and stuffing into my diaper to keep it out of the way. But who would do that....?

Holy cow, look at all of my bounty! Mom helped me open my presents a little but when I saw something awesome like a hangar or a box, it was all me! Sweet!

Uncle Tim and Great Uncle John broke out the Disney 4-in-1 Pop n' Play Activity Ride-On that UT and Aunt Kelly got me. It is AWESOME! M&D keep threatening to take it over to UT's house for when he babysits. NO WAY M&D! So what if it doesn't have an off switch or is extremely loud without a volume adjustment, I'd miss it too much to store at UT's.

Looking back at the picture below, I don't remember why I was so upset but I assume GUJ was pinching me or something! From what I hear, GUJ hasn't lost his touch (just some hair!)

One huge surprise was that M&D let me eat some (cup)cake. I really wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with it so I mostly just played with it. Unfortunately I forgot to take GAS&GUD's advice about spreading frosting in my hair. DOH! Eventually Mom decided to feed it to me on a spoon but not before I made a decent mess (highlighted below.)

I had SO MUCH FUN at my party but in the end I didn't mind it so much when everyone left because I got to spend some QT with M&D before bed.

I want to thank everyone so much for helping me celebrate my first birthday. I had a ton of fun and got enough bounty to keep me busy for a year. Coincidence?

Bicentennial Blog

On Thursday I turned THREE HUNDRED SIXTY FIVE days old and will tell you about in this, my TWO HUNDREDTH POST! Holy cow, I can't believe how quickly the former milestone was reached and frankly THAT the latter milestone was reached. I mean, let's face it, there were even odds that I was gonna do seven posts and then quit. Seriously, how many babies do you know that have this kind of attention sp-- hey, what's that?

My birthday started off with a bang because I got to open presents! There was even a present that Mom didn't know about and I think she was almost as excited as I was. Mom didn't know about it because Dad hid it when it came in the mail from Great Aunt Suzi and Great Uncle Dale. IT'S MY OWN PIANO! AHHHHHHH!

I also got an awesome present from Uncle Jeff and Aunt Emily. They're fancy shoes which is exactly what I needed for Easter but they also SQUEAK when I walk or jump over and over and over and over and over and over. Sweet.

To celebrate my birthday, M&D and I went down to the Plaza to have lunch at Houston's. I hear its spin dip is awesome but I wouldn't know first hand because M&D bogarted it all. Boo! It was a beautiful day out so after Houston's we did some shopping and I got even MORE presents.

After all of our shopping, we headed to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. We started out in the Bloch building which is pretty much a piece of art in itself. The main hallway is called Gallery Walk and is basically one long ramp. My 30+ year old parents decided it would be fun to let me roll sans parent when no one was looking. Real mature M&D.

I think my favorite section was the Contemporary section. It's funny because some of the pieces are incredible and some just leave you asking, "Art?" I hope you'll click on each of the pics below so you can see larger versions.

I think this was my favorite!

This was probably Dad's favorite.

I can't imagine how many layers of paint it must have taken to get this type of texture. Crazy.

At the end of the Bloch building was Noguchi Court from which we could see the Sculpture Park (shuttlecocks = art) and the Nelson-Atkins Building. In our line of sight to the NAB was this entertaining fella. Performance Art?

Next we visited the American Art Collection (18th century through WWII.)

My day had been pretty awesome but then we stopped at BASKIN-ROBBINS! Actually, you know what, I didn't get anything at Houston's or BR... I think I got ripped off here. Who's birthday was it anyway? BOO!
