Birds of Prey

Mom had to work again on Friday the 25th so I spent the day with Grandma Herbert.
After lunch GmaH decided it might be fun to make some muffins and let me help. She brought the bowl down to my level and even let me stir by myself - even if only for a few moments.
After we slapped 'em in the oven, I pulled up a chair to watch the show.

Hey, this reminds me of a joke I heard awhile back that still makes me laugh.

A pan of muffins are in the oven baking and one muffin turns to the second and says, "is it just me or is getting hot in here?" The second muffin is shocked and says, "holy cow, a talking muffin!"

When Grandpa Herbert got home from work, we did a little reading, including one of my faves - Twinkle, Twinkle!

I really enjoy sitting around the piano and singing... even if the piano kind of starts and stops sporadically while Mom pauses to look at her fingers...

For dinner, Mom and I met Dad, Grandpa Davenport, Aunt Darcy & Uncle Dave for some Chinese. I LOVED the lo mein but long noodles aren't quite my strong suit. How come they can't make this with a nice macaroni or rigatoni.
When GpaD put down the means to pay for dinner, AD made a play for the card and asked me if I wanted to go shopping. I was kind of torn because I totally love shopping but I kind of felt bad snaking GpaD's card. Also, I think GmaD uses it quite a bit to buy me stuff already so it'd kind of be like robbing myself...

After dinner, GpaD, AD, Dad and I headed over to see Grandma Davenport at Olathe East. They were playing Olathe South in basketball and once again I was torn. AD & Dad are OS alums (AD graduated EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO!) but GmaD works at OE. Hmm...
At one point, one of the OS teacher chaperones hooked me up with some pom poms that HAPPENED to be blue and gold...
Hmm... I don't really want to choose sides but cheerleading was pretty fun... but then again, GmaD gives me gifts on a pretty regular basis... GO EAST!

Muddy Waters

Mom didn't feel she could come back from vacation and take an "off" Friday so I spent the 18th with Grandma Herbert. As has become a pretty sweet tradition on my days with GmaH, we joined Aunt Abby for lunch at Nordstrom.

Mom and AA planned a birthday party for GmaH so Mom and I spent Friday evening prepping some goodies.
Here, Mom is very tentatively letting me mix the cupcake batter. While we slaved away, Dad hung around to snap the occasional pic and lick the occasional bowl.

On Saturday morning, Dad and I met Aunt Darcy, Uncle Dave, Grandma & Grandpa Davenport for breakfast at First Watch Shoppes at Corporate Woods.
After breakfast, Dad and I headed home to watch some basketball and rest up before GmaH's party.
Despite going down for my nap a little early, I still slept a pretty long time. I love naps and all but I was kind of bummed out that I slept most of the way through the party and missed seeing most of GmaH's friends. Boo!

On the evening of the 21st, Dad had cards and Mom had Paper Mill Designs meeting. M&D decided I'm not old enough to stay home with my sisters all alone but that's cool because that meant I got to go play with G&G H.
Like we did on Friday, we called Great Grandma Chapman and did some long distance singing. I'm really expanding my reproitoire (can't believe I didn't spell that right the first try) reprotoire repretoire repertoire (looked it up; I'm the worst.)

Before Mom and I left, she threw on some Big River and we all jammed. Ain't no party like a Big River party!

On Tuesday G&G H stopped by to pick up some stationery from Mom. I took the opportunity to get them to sit on the stairs with me. Penny got jealous and snuck into the picture as well but that's pretty cool I guess.

Surf's Up

For breakfast on Tuesday the 15th, we headed a ways up north to a Holiday Inn if you can believe it. Once again, the view was incredible (and worth the drive) and so was the food.

I was shocked to see some crazy old man venturing into the ocean. TOO COLD! Also, I'm not sure Aunt Darcy was able to fully enjoy her breakfast with the flock of bathing birds in the surf. She's so silly!

As you all know, I love breakfast and not just because eggs are so delicious. Every breakfast table comes with toys already provided. Hmm, my guess is that I didn't get too many more jellies on this leaning tower...

After breakfast, Mom, Dad and AD headed to Ikea to look for some EKBY BJÄRNUM shelves but came home with just some KVART clamp lights. Lame. I got to go shopping with Great Grandma Davenport, Grandma & Grandpa Davenport where we partook in some ice cream then headed to the beach.

Sand was... interesting. I REALLY didn't like it on my hands and it's pretty hard to walk on too. It was all bumpy and sometimes you sink but sometimes you don't. Not a huge fan.

Fortunately GpaD helped we walk up to the water for a better view. Florida is awesome!

Being outside all day was sweet but totally exhausting. But I was afraid if I napped that I'd miss something cool so I just hung out all afternoon.

That is, until we went out to dinner. Having no nap caught up with me in a big way and after a little melt down, I finally fell asleep in mom's arms. Why is vacationing so exhausting?

We headed home on Wednesday and I'm happy to say the flight home was mostly uneventful. I loved Florida but I was happy to get home and sleep in my own bed again.

That wraps up my vacation posting which of course puts me a week behind... again. Whatever, I wasn't comfortable being caught up anyway.

Two Bridges

The 14th was Great Grandma Davenport's birthday yet once again, I was getting presents.
If you recall from yesterday's post, I got a new pair of Hello Kitty sunglasses which were just a precursor to a Hello Kitty themed Valentine's day. I got a HK purse, some HK stickers and a new outfit. The outfit wasn't HK, but that's probably out of consideration for my sisters (Woof Woof!)

Shortly after I opened presents, Grandpa Davenport declared he was going on a walk and Grandma Davenport asked if the two of us could join.
The canal behind Great Grandma Davenport's is called called the Kingfisher Waterway. Um, because, uh, Kingfishers er, founded the, um... water in it? Okay, I don't know why but the streets have names so why shouldn't the canals. Also, I think I like boats. Anyone have this weekend's winning powerball numbers?
I think the labels pretty much let you know what's going on in the pic above. In the pic below, G&G D decided to leave me IN THE ROAD to get some sweets houses in the background. It's okay, we looked both ways before we crossed the street.
Seriously, what are the winning powerball numbers. I'm beginning to get a complex about our driveway not having a gate.
When we got home from our walk, M&D were napping (on vacation?) so I hung out with the fun peeps some more. GmaD let me borrow her bracelet. Seriously, does it go perfectly with this outfit or what?!?!

While M&D were snoozing the day away, GpaD showed me why I need to go to college... to learn how much chlorine to put in pools. This guy works in 15 minute increments and is outside all day. Assuming I don't become a full blown red head, this sounds pretty decent. Or the powerball. You know, either way.

That afternoon, I hijacked GpaD's computer and stared watching some videos... of me, naturally. In the one below, GGD and I are watching the two of us during our first chat ever. Pretty fun.

For GGD's 91st birthday dinner, we had early reservations at Sea Watch.

Seriously, with the views down here.
Given how busy SW was, it's no surprise that dinner took awhile to come out but I'm like two years old and sometimes I get a little fidgety... Dad took me for a walk outside. We played on the wheelchair ramp for about 15 minutes until the future emphazema emphasema emfazema emfasema emphisema emphysema (really?) patients chased us off. Fortunately we headed out back which somehow turned out to be better than the wheelchair ramp. Who knew?
After dinner, I spent time between GpaD and AD. I spared GGD the hassle of me crawling all over her, but I was sure to stay close in case there was a key lime surplus.
AD looked like she may need help finishing her KL pie too but I chickened out at the last second. Lime pie? Hmm. I'm not sold.

When we got home, we crammed in the first Jeopardy episode where a computer squashed a few nerds and while we waited for the KSU v KU game to start, GGD opened her birthday presents.
It had been about 12 hours since I opened any gifts so I volunteered to help. On account of my experience, I'm wicked good at opening presents.

Perhaps my favorite part was seeing the signature to Great Uncle Todd's card. GUT is on the far left of this pic -- pretty good likeness, eh?

Since I wasn't allowed to play with any of GGD's new books, GmaD offered to read me Bear Snores On. Well, read may be a little generous considering she wasn't wearing her glasses. It was more like a cross between Bear Snores On Cliff's Notes and a good cover song. Not the original but still very good and I got jist of it.

I really wanted to stay up to watch the KSU game but couldn't make it. I'm sure I didn't miss anything good...

Okay, one more vaca day left then we'll get back on schedule... to being a week behind. Sweet.

Apparently while I was napping on Saturday, Mom & Dad bought me my first toothpaste. I've been brushing my teeth for awhile now but since I don't always follow instructions, especially ones I don't understand (like, "don't swallow toothpaste"), I haven't gotten to use toothpaste. But while on vaca, M&D decided to pick up some fluoride-free 'paste for me to try. Verdict: YUM!

Before we started our day, Grandma Davenport noticed some birdies outside so we headed out with Mom for a closer look. I believe Aunt Darcy was hiding in the porch mapping her get away should one of the cranes make a sudden movement. Side note: can chlorine water be good for cranes?

For breakfast on Sunday, we met Great Uncles Dale and Dick over at... wait for it... wait for it... First Watch Boca Raton! Hey, go with what you know, right! And as you can see, my vacation away from M&D continued for another meal. SWEET!

After breakfast, Great Grandma Davenport, G&G D and I headed to over to Target. Hmm, shaping up just like a Sunday in KC, eh? But after our errand, we went to the park where M&D were playing tennis with AD and Uncle Dave. This park was AWESOME and was the perfect spot to break out my NEW SUNGLASSES. Love 'em!

This was a special "little kid" playground and I was thrilled because I was finally able replicate a trick I saw Mom do months ago. Of course, after mastering the yellow slide, I decided to try the red slide but it may as well have been Everest (side note: ask Mom about Everest the next time you see her. Also, pirates.) Fortunately, GpaD was there to give me a lift.

There was a big kid's birthday party at the park too and in addition to a bouncy castle (hint hint, M&D), Spiderman took a break (no pun intended) from his debacle on Broadway to entertain some kids. Hmm, a man in skin tight spandex hanging around small children? That can't be a good idea.

When AD, UD, M&D got done playing tennis, they came to get us. I volunteered to carry some of the equipment back to the car. Am I nice or what?

On our way out, we saw Spiderman on the roof. Naturally.

We decided to shoot for an early dinner at... wait for it... wait for it... Houston's Pompano Beach. Spin dip in Florida is just as good as spin dip in KC. View in Florida? Considerably better.

GmaD took me for a walk along the dock and I spotted a pelican. AD? Nowhere in sight.

I know it's taking me awhile to catch up but there were like 60+ pics from our vacation. Two more vaca days coming up... then of course all the stuff since we got home. DOH!
